Well, blimey O'Riley! I still can't get used to it - I
actually passed my driving test. After 37 years and 5 attempts the examiner not
only passed me (with only 5 driver faults out of the 15 you're allowed before
you fail), but also said I am a 'very able driver'.
What was particularly lovely was that, seconds after I got
the news, my original driving instructor Kate, who abandoned me when she became
a examiner herself, walked passed the car and peered in. I was able to bound
out and give her a big hug, at which point I burst into tears. Ever the drama
queen!

I seem to have spent most of my adult life learning to drive. Of course that's a gross exaggeration - but it is certainly 36 years since I first had a driving lesson and when I take my test in March it will be almost 25 years since I took my last one.
When I began this tranche of lessons I started a weblog about it - if you're interested you can click here to read the whole story about how come I've got to the age of 54 without driving.
Anyway - after a while I stopped using the weblog - it felt like a struggle to find something new to say - for month after month I simply plugged away at trying to start even anticipating the possibility of vaguely not minding, let alone ENJOYING the experience.
